A number of shots were fired in the attack which occurred at approximately 11:40pm at 11 Kilcronan Court , Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

Gardaí said the shooter fled the scene on foot through Kilcronan estate in the direction of the Grand Canal.

Gardaí said they would like to speak with anyone who can provide any information adding: “The smallest piece of information, which may seem insignificant, might help with the investigation.”

Detective Inspector Colm O'Malley told Newstalk that investigators do not believe the attack was gang related:

“At this time the motive is open to conjecture,” he said. “There are a number of suggestions as to why he was shot - but the one line of inquiry that we are pursuing relates to a potential argument that he had with the gunman.”

“This may have been witnessed by a number of people in the days leading up to the murder so my appeal would be to those persons to contact either Crimestoppers or the garda investigation team at Clondalkin Garda Station.”

Clondalkin Garda Station can be contacted on 01 666 7600 while Crimestoppers are available on 1800 25 00 25.
