The Garda Ombudsman has been called in to investigate the death of a man who'd been in Garda custody.

The man in his mid-twenties was pronounced dead in hospital this morning, after he was transferred by ambulance from Ballymun Garda Station.

Lorna Lee, Head of Communications at GSOC, said an inquiry is underway:

It's the third incident being investigated by GSOC this week.

They are also probing a collision on M7 Limerick to Dublin road earlier involving an off-duty Garda and a motorist whose car had broken down.

Separately GSOC is investigating the death of a 43-year-old woman in Kildare in Thursday after she was struck by a car being pursued by Gardaí.
