A former 'Coronation Street' actress has been chosen as the UK Labour candidate in a by-election next month.

The seat in Batley and Spen has been vacant since the murder of MP Jo Cox in June.

Tracy Brabin played Tricia Armstrong in 'Coronation Street' from 1994 to 1997.

She has also appeared in 'EastEnders' and 'Emmerdale'.

As well as her on-screen roles, she has also written for shows including 'Family Affairs', 'Tracy Beaker' and 'Hollyoaks'.

She looks almost certain to get elected on October 20th, as other parties have choosen not to field a candidate out of respect for Mrs Cox.

Speaking after the announcement last night, Ms Brabin said why she thinks she is the right person for the job.
