Dublin footballer Jonny Cooper has released a statement, in which he says he has received "enormous support" since he was attacked with a knife earlier this month.
In the statement, Mr Cooper says "Dublin is a great place; it is a safe place and it is my home. If nothing else, this can be a lesson that when you're out, stay safe and stick together."
He says he will not be making any further comment on the matter, and he has "every faith" gardaí and relevant authorities will secure a positive outcome.
Mr Cooper (24), who plays for Na Fianna, was stabbed multiple times in the early hours of Saturday September 20th. It happened on Dorset Street in north inner-city Dublin.
He sustained serious injuries to his face and upper body in what gardaí say was a random, unprovoked attack.
CCTV footage of the assault was deemed too distressing to be shown on the RTÉ programme 'Crimecall' last week.
A 31-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday, and gardaí also renewed their appeal for anyone who witnessed the assault to contact them.
