Four people have been arrested in Birmingham while another is being held at Gatwick Airport, on suspicion of terror offences.

Three men and a woman were detained in Birmingham on Thursday night while another man in his 20's was arrested at Gatwick Airport earlier this morning. All five suspects are being held in the West Midlands, where they are being questioned by specialist officers.

Reports in Britain say that these are the first arrests in the UK believed to be linked to the recent atrocities in Paris and Brussels. However, British authorities do not suspect that an attack was being in the UK at this time.

They also said that the arrests were pre-planned and that there was no threat to the public 'at any time.'
