Facebook has repeatedly stated the future of content is video. Much of its recent growth can be tied to the sharing of videos on its platform and the company has not been shy in discussing its plans to monetise this.

Users will know that videos on the News Feed autoplay by default, but without sound. This is set to change, however, in a move that was announced earlier this week.

Facebook has announced it will enable sound on the News Feed by default, in a move that has been tested out for a short time.

While this may sound unappealing to many, the company says it has received "positive feedback" so far.

In a blog post published on Tuesday, the company stated,

"With this update, sound fades in and out as you scroll through videos in News Feed, bringing those videos to life.As people watch more video on phones, they’ve come to expect sound when the volume on their device is turned on.”

You can disable this feature if it doesn't sound like your cup of tea. It's also worth noting that Facebook will not override your phone's settings, so if your phone is on silent, the sound from videos will not play out.
