A man who escaped from Pentonville prison on Monday has been arrested.

Matthew Baker, who was awaiting sentencing for attempted murder, was detained at an address in Ilford, northeast London.

A 21-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man were also arrested and taken to a different police station.
James Whitlock, who escaped from the category B Victorian jail at the same time, remains at large.

According to reports, the cellmates' beds had been stuffed with pillows to make them look like they were sleeping.

The pair reportedly used diamond-tipped cutting equipment to slice through bars before scaling a perimeter wall at the north London prison to freedom.

Baker had been found guilty of attempted murder in October after stabbing a man during a dispute and was due to be sentenced tomorrow.

Whitlock was on remand after being charged with conspiracy to burgle, and is suspected of committing 19 thefts from ATMs in southeast England between December 2015 and August 2016.

Members of the public who see Whitlock are still being urged not to approach him and to call 999, as he could be violent.

He is described as a white man of slim build, and has the word "Tracy" tattooed on his torso.
Officers from the London borough of Islington are continuing to investigate, along with support from the Met's Flying Squad and Major Crime Command.
