An eight-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in Derry.

The incident happened in Maghera on Glenshane Road at around 8pm last night.

The child was struck by a car near the entrance to a service station.

PSNI Inspector Andy Harvison said: “We are investigating the circumstances of the collision.

"[We] would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dashcam footage."
