The European Commission has launched a new website to assist female entrepreneurs.

The site - WEgate.eu - gives advice on mentoring and how to source finance for women who wish to start or grow a business.

Ruth Deasy of the EU Commission explained that it was set up because the commission wants to promote female entrepreneurship.

The news comes ahead of the 10th annual National Women's Enterprise Day. Events are taking place on October 19th in Cavan, Dublin, Westmeath, Meath, Kilkenny, Kerry and Galway to celebrate the success stories of Irish female entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the launch last month, Minister for Jobs Mary Mitchell O'Connor said: "I want to increase the numbers of female entrepreneurs starting businesses across all regions of the country which will further enhance our economy by creating more quality jobs in Ireland".

“Last year, the Local Enterprise Offices in partnership with the Local Authorities provided invaluable supports including financial and mentoring to 6,250 female-run businesses while more than 11,000 female entrepreneurs participated in specialist training programmes.”
