Drivers are being warned to watch out for icy patches if they have to travel tonight.
A status yellow warning for snow & ice is in place, and is valid throughout Saturday.
Met Éireann says: "Scattered snow showers across the country today, becoming mainly confined to Western and Northern parts tonight and for tomorrow. Icy patches expected."
Overnight temperatures are expected to drop below freezing in places.
The Road Safety Authority is advising people to check local weather and traffic conditions before setting off if travel is essential.
The authority is warning drivers: "Watch out for 'black ice'. If the road looks polished or glossy it could be, 'black ice' one of winter's worst hazards.
"It is nearly transparent ice that often looks like a harmless puddle or is overlooked entirely. It can occur especially in sheltered / shaded areas on roads, under trees and adjacent to high walls."
They also say motorists should remove all snow from vehicles before starting a journey, and watch out for vulnerable pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
