Donegal priest Fr Brian Ó Fearraigh is known to his parishioners for his love of the county’s GAA teams, so perhaps it came as no surprise to his flock when he warned them on his Facebook profile that last Saturday evening’s vigil mass, which happened to coincide with Donegal and Monaghan’s SFC Ulster semi-final, would be a hasty affair.

Unable to make it to Breffni Park, Gaoth Dobhair’s Fr Ó Fearraigh made it pretty clear that Saturday’s mass would be a hasty one, allowing everyone there to get back to their TV screens to catch the game as it happened.

“Tír Chonaill Abú! Sporting the county colours and getting ready for this 7pm throw-in, ahem I mean, start of this evening’s #SuperFastMass,” the sport-loving priest wrote, sharing a picture of himself giving the thumbs up in some green and gold vestments.

Sadly, his prayers went unanswered, as Donegal tied with defending champions Monaghan 1 -11 to 0 - 14, meaning a replay – and perhaps another #SuperFastMass – is on the cards for Donegal.
