US singer and actress Dolly Parton is releasing her first children’s album.

The 'Jolene' singer says proceeds will benefit her Imagination Library foundation.

The Imagination Library is a book gifting organisation that has distributed 100 million books to more than one million children since 1996.

Books are sent to children from birth to five years of age in the US, Canada, Australia and Britain.

The foundation was established by Parton to honour her father, who never learned to read or write.

'I Believe in You' is due to be released digitally on September 29th and physically on October 13th.

All tracks were written and performed by Parton - with the final track being a special reading of her famed 'Coat of Many Colours.'

She made the announcement on her Twitter feed:

<blockquote class="twitter-video" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I&#39;ve teamed with <a href="https://twitter.com/PledgeMusic">@PledgeMusic</a> to provide some fun bundles for my new children’s album!
