Joe O’Reilly’s development company has been added as a party to one of the strands of a legal action aimed at protecting buildings on Dublin’s Moore St.

The Government is facing opposition to its plans to build a commemorative centre to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising.

Number 16 Moore Street is considered to be the final headquarters of the leaders of the 1916 Rising and was designated a national monument in 2010 along with numbers 14, 15 and 17.

The Government wants to restore the buildings and develop a Commemorative Centre to mark the upcoming centenary.

To do so, number 18 will have to be knocked down and work will also need to be carried out on 13 and 19.

The State has an interest in 18, but Joe O’Reilly’s development company Chartered Land holds the planning permission for the other two.

The 1916 Relatives Association is looking for those buildings to be protected too, but the Government claims they hold no historical significance

Today, Chartered Land was added as a respondent to proceedings relating to an alleged unauthorised development.
The hearing is due to begin on Friday.
