The Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) is appealing for people to foster cats this Christmas.

The charity says it has a dozen adult cats in need of temporary homes for the next week.

The DSPCA will provide all the food required, but says the animals must be allowed live indoors.

Spokesperson Gillian Bird said: "We're trying to get as many of the animals here in the DSPCA out into foster homes over the Christmas period.

"It's lovely for the animals to be in a home environment. It also gives us the opportunity to take in more animals over Christmas, and also to give the whole place a deep clean and do some renovation work."

Anybody interested can contact foster@dspca.ie or call (01) 499 4700.
