An inquest in Britain has heard The Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan died by drowning due to alcohol intoxication.

She was found submerged in a bath of water in a London hotel back in January.

A toxicology report also showed she was four-times over the legal driving limit.

Five miniature bottles of spirits were found in her hotel room.

Ms O'Riordan was described as being on a selection of prescription drugs taken for bipolar disorder.

A report from Ms O'Riordan's US psychiatrist said she had stopped drinking and seemed to be doing well.

Although he said she had felt a little low over Christmas.

The sitting at Westminster Coroner’s Court also heard from Dr Seamus O'Ceallaigh - Ms O'Riordan's psychiatrist in Ireland.

Dr O'Ceallaigh said he believed she had 'an episode of mania or elevated mood'.

The coroner heard there was no evidence she had taken any drugs other than prescription medication, and ruled her death was accidental.

Ms O'Riordan's family were in court for the verdict.

The coroner offered her condolences to the family, and concluded the court session.

"Dolores will live on eternally in her music"

The band released a statement following the hearing.

Writing on Facebook, they said: "On January 15th 2018 we lost our dear friend and band mate Dolores O'Riordan. Today we continue to struggle to come to terms with what happened.
