The sister of a woman who claims she was raped by their uncle has told his trial she was hysterical when she called over to tell her what happened.

The accused, who is in his 60s, is alleged to have raped the woman in a bed they shared after a family Christmas dinner in 2014.

The complainant, a single mother in her 40s, cooked a big family dinner at her home in north Dublin on Christmas Day 2014.

She said there must have been 20 people there including her uncle – a man she described yesterday as like a brother to her.

She said she stayed up late drinking with him and her older sister after everyone else had left.

She said they all ended up in the same bed and she claims her uncle raped her after her sister went home in the middle of the night.

He initially told her he didn't realise it was her but later told the family they had consensual sex.

Her older sister has been giving evidence today.

She said her sister drove to her house shortly after she left.

She said she was hysterical and kept asking why she had left her. She said she eventually told her she’d been raped and she went back to her house and told her uncle to get out.
