A man who claims Jeff Hendrick pulled him out of a taxi before he was beaten up says he doesn’t remember becoming a menace when he met him inside a Dublin nightclub.
The Republic of Ireland footballer is accused of violent disorder at Harcourt Street on October 12th 2013.
Darren McDermott’s jaw was broken in three places when he was beaten up down a laneway near Krystle nightclub in Dublin city.
Jeff Hendrick isn’t accused of assaulting him. He is accused of violent disorder arising from a claim that he pulled him from a taxi before the alleged assault.
Under cross-examination, Sean Gillane, who’s defending the international footballer, challenged Mr McDermott’s account of what happened.
He accused him of becoming a bit of a menace of a nuisance when he ended up in the company of Mr Hendrick in the nightclub.
He asked if he remembered putting his arms around people or becoming touchy-feely and being told to “F off”.
Mr McDermott said he didn’t.
He also said he’d no recollection of slagging off Jeff Hendrick’s teammates nor did he remember calling them crap or useless.
To this day, he said he didn't know why Mr Hendrick became so abusive and threatening.
