The Barry Group, which owns and operates Costcutter and Carryout stores, has created 375 new jobs so far this year.

The expansion came as the group opened 15 new Costcutter stores and 10 Carry Out off-licences. More than half of these retailers previously traded as independent outlets, or under another franchise brand.

Jim Barry, Managing Director of the Barry Group reports that demand for these retail outlets has been fuelled by an upswing in consumer spending and more people being employed.

"The Barry Group will have supported the opening of the almost 15 totally new retail stores in 2016," Edwina Lucey, Sales Director for the group added.

"There has been considerable investment in refurbishment and expansion of existing Costcutter and Carryout stores countrywide too, all reflecting the improved economy, and growing demand for convenient local stores," she continued.

The company was founded in 1955 - it supplies 265 franchises under the Costcutter, Carry Out Off Licence and Quik Pick symbols, as well as a large number of independent retailers and wholesalers based in Ireland.
