The Citizens' Assembly is meeting for the third time this weekend to consider the 8th amendment to the Irish Constitution.
Members are discussing submissions they have received from the public and hearing from a number of medical, legal and ethical experts.
They are considering topics such as the care path available to women who have had abortions in the UK, and abortions in the case of rape.
An agenda for the meeting was circulated in advance.
Some of the speakers this weekend include Gilda Sedgh, principal research scientist at the Guttmacher Institute in New York.
Her areas of expertise include unintended pregnancy and abortions levels and trends worldwide, trends in the unmet need for contraception in developing countries, and women’s reasons for contraceptive non-use.
Obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Patricia A Lohr, who completed her post-graduate training at the Los Angeles County-Harbor UCLA Medical Centre, will also speak to the assembly.
Dr Maeve Eogan - consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Rotunda Hospital Dublin, and consultant in maternal and fetal medicine at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Peter Thompson are also on the agenda.
The assembly will also hear from the chief executive of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre and human rights solicitor, Noeline Blackwell.
A number of protesters have also picketed the venue in north Dublin.
