The Irish Independent headline focuses on a looming airfares price war – “Airfare war as Ryanair targets Aer Lingus routes”.

It could be a symptom of silly season, but seagulls are once again in the headlines as David Cameron has discussed the need to do something about the birds following the news that a group of gulls killed a pet dog in the UK – and Chris was unambiguous in letting us know his feelings on seagulls.

Ivan was entertained by an article on an annual pig race at the Arklow Seabreeze festival (an event which one member of the Breakfast team has a particularly close link to, as Chris told the nation – presumably much to that team member’s displeasure).

And pictures of Paul Dunne, the Irish amateur golfer who stands on the brink of sporting history at the British Open today, take centre stage on the front page of many of the day’s papers.
