Longford has been named Ireland's cleanest town for 2015 by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL).

They beat off competition from Dun Laoghaire and three-time winner Kilkenny to take the crown, after judges found it to be cleaner than European norms.

The latest IBAL survey showed that no town was classed as a 'litter blackspot', although they still had concerns about Farranree in Cork and Dublin's north inner-city.

Drogheda, Dun Laoghaire, Dungarvan, Kilkenny and Longford were in the running for the top spot.

IBAL says three-quarters of our towns and cities are now clean to European norms, representing a drop of 15% on last year.

Spokesperson Conor Horgan explains why Longford won the title.
