The ISPCA is caring for two very young baby hedgehogs, who were found infested with parasites.

The pair were extremely cold and underweight when they were discovered in Mullingar by a member of the public abandoned in a garden.

They were only two weeks old when found, infested with maggots in their eyes and ears.

The ISPCA say their mother never returned to the garden, so they were carefully removed and brought to the National Animal Centre.

They were given rehydration fluids and they perked up shortly after.

The ISCPA say they are starting to grow stronger and were introduced to food in the form of kitten milk and a special recovery mix.

The pair, who were named Seamus and Padraig, are being fed every three to four hours.

Our dedicated staff member Rosemary has been fostering these little guys since their arrival at the National Animal Centre and we decided to call them Seamus and Padraig.

The ISPCA say they will prepare them for a soft release prior to their hibernation, where they will be monitored.

The ISPCA say hoglets are often found during the summer months, and are urging avid gardeners to be vigilant and keep a look out for them.
