Avoca is recalling a single batch each of its hummus and colcannon because of the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeriosis is a serious disease which can be life threatening - particularly for pregnant women, the elderly and other people with a weakened immune system.

Consumers are being advised not to eat the product.

The affect batch code is J30 - the hummus 'Use By' date is 07.02.17, while the Colcannon 'Use By' date is 04.02.17.

Those who have bought the batch should dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase.

While food businesses should remove the products from sale, and clearly display a notice informing customers not to eat them.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) have designated this a Category 1 alert.

These are issued where there is "an identified risk to consumers and action needs to be taken by official agencies and/or food businesses or other businesses".
