An aspiring rapper in Australia has been accused of attempting to skip on a restaurant bill by fleeing into the sea.

The incident is reported to have happened at the Omeros Bros restaurant in Gold Coast on Sunday afternoon local time.

According to News.com.au, Terry Peck (33) - who also goes by the alias '2Pec' - allegedly racked up a $620 (€440) bill by ordering two whole lobsters, a baby octopus, 21 vodka cocktails called 'oyster shooters', and four beers.

However, he is accused of attempting to avoid paying the bill by entering the ocean at a nearby beach and hiding underwater.

Queensland Police say the man was pursued - and ultimately caught and arrested - by officers who were towed out into the water by lifeguards on jet skis.

The suspect later appeared in court charged with stealing and serious assault of a police officer.

The judge granted bail, although exclaimed "Oh God! By himself?" when informed of the size of the bill, ABC reports.

Outside court, Mr Peck told reporters that the lobster was 'overcooked', and claimed he left the restaurant to help a friend who was having a baby on the beach.

The restaurant manager, meanwhile, told news.com.au: “It wouldn’t have been overcooked. I’m pretty confident of that.”
