It’s been almost three decades since Matthew Broderick turned mitching off from school into a bona fide teen classic in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, uttering the now immortal lines “Life movies pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.”

To mark the milestone, Ferris Fest is set to take place in Chicago, Illinois, offering fans of the film the chance to live an interactive experience in the style of everyone’s favourite fourth-wall breaking truant.

Ferris Fest has been devised by the company Filmed Here, the owner of which, David Blanchard, said: “Ferris Bueller is timeless; it’s really about breaking free from that nine-to-five grind and really appreciating life and taking an adventure, whatever that might be.”

Much like the characters in the classic John Hughes’ teen comedy, which follows the eponymous schoolboy as he, his girlfriend Sloane, and his depressed friend Cameron enjoy the sights and sounds of the Windy City, Ferris Fest attendees will be treated to a bus tour of filming locations, screenings of the film, an 1980s high-school dance, and even a Twist & Shout parade through downtown Chicago.

The famous red Ferrari Spyder, belonging to Cameron’s overbearing father in the film and part of its emotional climax, will also be there – though organisers are keen for it to not succumb to the same fate from the movie.

Ferris Fest will take place from May 20th to 22nd in a number of Chicago locations.
