Officers were unable to enter the building but could see staff gathered in a back room.

The employees were able to escape uninjured with the help of gardaí.

The man was pursued and arrested a short distance from the bank.

No cash was taken but officers recovered a firearm, ammunition, cable ties and duct tape.

The suspect is being detained at Wexford garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939, as amended.
