Do you like living life in the fast lane? What about life in the flying lane? In what seems like a storyline from an episode of The Jetson's, a passenger-carrying drone is set to fly in Dubai.

Mattar al-Tayer, head of Dubai's Roads and Transportation Agency, announced plans to have the small craft flying regularly at the World Government Summit.

"This is not only a model," al-Tayer said. "We have actually experimented with this vehicle flying in Dubai's skies."

The small pod can carry a passenger weighing up to 100kg and a small suitcase. Once in place, the passenger selects a destination on a touch-pad and the drone flies off automatically. The drone's battery life allows for 30 minutes of fly time and has a range of up to 50km. Each flight will be monitored remotely by a control port on the ground.

al-Tayer said the drone would being 'regular operations' in July.
