An Antrim man who spent six days in a coma in Australia after an alleged punch from his brother has appealed for the charges to be dropped.

Patrick Lyttle, who has been released from hospital, was in court yesterday to support his 33-year-old brother Barry.

The court was told Patrick does not have lasting injuries after the incident in Sydney in January.

Samantha Brett - reporter with Channel 7 News in Australia - told Newstalk Breakfast it was an emotional scene outside the court:

Barry Lyttle has been charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, charges which his 31-year-old brother has asked be dropped.

In January Barry was granted changes to his bail conditions after requesting leave to stay closer to the hospital where his brother Patrick was being treated

Barry allegedly punched his brother in the head following a minor disagreement outside a nightclub on January 3rd. Patrick's condition was originally described as critical, but he left hospital earlier this month.

Barry and his father Oliver were said to have arrived in Australia just days before the incident to visit Patrick, who was backpacking around the country.
