Milk chocolate digestives are the nation's favourite biscuits, according to Tesco.

The retailer has been looking into biscuit sales over the past five months to see what biscuits are Ireland's favourites.

Chocolate chip cookies came in second place, while OREO vanilla came in third. Plain digestives made the fourth spot while good old Rich Tea came in at number five.

Honourable mentions went to Bourbon Creams, Ginger Nuts and Custard Creams managed to just sneak into the favourites list at number ten.

Commenting about the results, Aisling Pearce of Tesco Ireland said: "Biscuits and tea are a marriage made in heaven and with the wide range available, it's interesting to see the traditional flavours topping the poll for Irish shoppers. Milk chocolate digestives took the biscuit with nearly 9 million milk chocolate covered digestives sold over the past five weeks."
