More than 52,000 people will receive round one offers for college places from the Central Applications Office (CAO) today.

The CAO has issued 75,495 offers in this first round.

The offers are made up of 41,422 Level 8 course offers and 34,073 Level 7/6 course offers.

Applicants can check if they have received an offer by going online at cao.ie and logging on to their account using the 'My Application' facility.

Successful applicants will also receive a notification via e-mail and SMS text message, if they selected this option on their application form.

Meanwhile, paper offer notices will reach the majority of applicants today, the CAO says.

If an applicant has not received an offer, they will receive a 'Statement of Application Record' in the post.

Courses including Architecture and Engineering have seen some rises in points due to renewed interest in the Construction sector.

Eileen Keleghan of the CAO has encouraged applicants to carefully check all correspondence.

"It is extremely important that applicants notify CAO immediately if there are any errors or omissions in any of the correspondence received from CAO," she said.

"They must make sure to do this well in advance of the next offer round to allow any corrections to be considered in subsequent offer rounds."

When accepting an offer, the CAO advises applicants to use the online system stating that it is "easier, safer and faster than returning the paper offer notice.

Last year, over 99 per cent of applicants accepted their offers online, and this year's figure is expected to be similar, according to Ms Keleghan.

"If you accept an offer in round one, this will not prevent you from receiving an offer of a course higher up on your courses list if you are deemed eligible in a later offer round," she said.

Applicants have until August 29th at 5:15pm to accept round one offers.
