US actor Thomas Gibson has been fired from the TV drama Criminal Minds after apparently hitting a producer on set.
The actor has since apologised, admitting there were "creative differences" and a "disagreement".
However, he has not revealed the details of the incident.
It reportedly follows a previous incident on the set of the show in 2010, in which Gibson is said to have been involved in an altercation with another crew member.
Gibson, in a statement released to US media, said he put his "heart and soul" into the show for 12 years.
"I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now," he added.
In a statement confirming the actor's dismissal, quoted by Variety, ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios said: “Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.”
Gibson has starred on Criminal Minds - a show that follows a group of FBI profilers - since it started in 2005.
He is one of only a handful of actors to have featured in every season to date of the popular show, but is now only expected to appear in two of the upcoming season's episodes.
