Over 345,000 people expected to travel through Dublin Airport this weekend

Dublin Airport says it expects more than 345,000 passengers to travel through it this October bank holiday weekend.

It says passenger numbers are up 3% over the same weekend last year.

More than 2,400 flights are due to arrive and depart this weekend, with Friday being the busiest day.

Dublin Airport spokesperson Siobhán O'Donnell says : "We're expecting an average of 86,000 passengers each day over the course of the October bank holiday weekend.

"Today (Friday) is expected to be the busiest day... with more than 96,000 passengers travelling through the airport."

Passengers planning to travel on Sunday morning are also being reminded that the clocks go back one hour on Saturday night.

So far this year, Dublin Airport has handled an extra 1.3 million customers, with passenger numbers up 6% to more than 22.7 million passengers for the first nine months of the year.

Passengers travelling to the US are also facing new security screenings.

Dublin Airport has the following advice for passengers travelling over the bank holiday weekend:

• Passengers are advised to check which terminal their flight is departing from before leaving home. Aer Lingus, Aer Lingus Regional, Emirates, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and American Airlines operate from Terminal 2, while all other airlines operate from Terminal 1
• Passengers should plan to arrive in the terminal building at least 90 minutes before their flight departure time to short haul destinations and 2.5-3 hours in advance for long haul flights irrespective of whether they are checking in on line or at the airport
• Remember that EU security regulations state that liquids over 100mls cannot be brought through the security screening area. Liquids under 100mls are permitted and should be placed in a transparent, re-sealable bag measuring not more than 20cm x 20cm. Exemptions are in place for medicines and for baby food
