The jury in the trial of seven people accused of murdering a man in Dublin has been shown a bloodied shoe taken from one of the accused.

Dale Creighton died in hospital on January 2nd 2014 following an alleged attack in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Garda Patrick Paul Hanley told the court he had arrived at a pedestrian footbridge over the Tallaght bypass at around 4am that morning.

He said he saw Dale Creighton lying unconscious on his back with his legs dangling off the top level of the steps.

Garda Hanley said he was gasping for breath and was bleeding from the eyes, nose and mouth. He was pronounced dead at Beaumont hospital the following day.

Two of the accused: Graham Palmer and Aisling Burke, who live at Beechpark in Collinstown, Co. Westmeath, were arrested near the footbridge.

Garda Robert Whitty said they were holding hands and he noticed Mr. Palmer had blood splatters on his face, clothes and shoes.

The white runners Ms. Burke was wearing that night were shown to the jury and the prosecution pointed to some blood on the right one.

Her muddied jacked was also presented to the court. She said she’d been mugged in a nearby park a half an hour before her arrest.

It is the prosecution’s case that Mr. Creighton was chased over a mobile phone and subjected to a vicious and prolonged attack that led to his death in hospital on Jan 2
