Opening hours in AIB's Grafton Street branch are set to get a whole lot better from September, as the bank strikes a game-changing deal with staff and unions.

The newly-refurbished branch will now open seven days a week, according to the Irish Times. Not only that, the hours overall are being extended.

If you're an AIB customer in Dublin, you can now visit the branch between 8am and 7pm on weekdays, excluding Fridays when it will stay open until 9pm.

It will then open from 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Irish Times understands that similar opening times will apply to a proposed new AIB outlet in SuperValu in Lucan, Co Dublin.

Staff are set to receive shift premiums of between 10-13% for working later hours and at weekends. Staff will work a five-day, 37-hour week. The change in working hours is voluntary.

AIB's new branches at Carrickmines Retail Park, Grand Canal Dock and Cork's Little Island outlet will also have extended opening hours.

Elsewhere in Cork, 24 branches are now open from 9am to 5pm weekdays as part of a pilot programme.

Larry Broderick, general secretary of the Financial Services Union, told the Irish Times:

"We recognise that there are locations where banks have a specific need for longer opening times but we do not accept the need for all locations to be open longer across the banking industry.

"And we also don’t believe that banks are adequately staffed at present."
