Cloud computing company Oracle is to hire 450 people in Dublin.

It is part of the firm's plans to expand operations across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, something that will be driven from its new headquarters in the capital.

Oracle plans to recruit 1,400 across the EMEA area, with a particular focus on five further locations - Amsterdam (The Netherlands); Cairo and Dubai (Middle East); Malaga (Spain) and Prague (Czech Republic).

The company is seeking experienced cloud sales professionals.

Oracle’s cloud technologies deliver everything from secure computing infrastructure to enterprise cloud applications.

Loic Le Guisquet, president, Oracle, said: "I want socially savvy, switched on individuals who can help customers respond to the digital imperative and make their businesses future proof. We’re looking for people who want to be relevant to the biggest trends shaping business and technology. Anybody looking to make a real impact with their career in technology should come and join Oracle, The Cloud Company."

Dermot O'Kelly, senior vice president for Oracle UK and Ireland, says Dublin has proved a great city in which to recruit staff.

The Taoiseach has meanwhile welcomed the announcement as a vote of confidence in Dublin as a tech hub.

Earlier, 70 new jobs were announced at another Dublin firm, medical technology company DD4Medical.
