It's good news on the jobs front this morning with 170 new positions announced at two separate companies.

Multi-national information solutions company Equifax has announced 150 jobs at its Development Centre on Sir John Rogerson's Quay in Dublin.

Meanwhile, cloud computing firm Strencom is hiring an extra 20 people at its Dublin and Cork offices in a €6m investment.

Equifax has already begun the recruitment process and expects to have all 150 vacancies filled within 12 months -expanding its Irish workforce to over 350 people.

The company opened its new IT development centre in Dublin last September and also employs 100 people at a separate facility in Wexford.

Equifax interim Chief Information Officer (CIO) Mark Rohwasser said the Irish talent pool was a big factor in the company's decision to expand:

"It is actually well under way, we have already added a number of new positions towards the goal," he said.

"We are particularly happy with the results that we have achieved to date in Dublin and made the decision that we wanted to significantly expand this facility given the great results we have seen to date."

He said the new roles are "largely technology jobs, including software engineering, business analysts and other IT specialists."

"They will be working on both the enhancement of existing products and the development of new products for those customers," he said.

Specialising in financial technology (FinTech), Equifax provides "information solutions" services in 24 countries around the world.

Skilled workforce

Welcoming the announcement this morning, the Minister of State for Employment Pat Breen said the expansion is " a great vote of confidence by the company in what Ireland has to offer. "

"We are very pleased that their existing operation has made great achievements in such a short space of time," he said.

"The availability of highly-skilled staff for Equifax’s innovative IT Development Centre has been key to their ongoing success in Ireland, and I am confident that this will continue to be the case.”

Infrastructure

Martin Shanahan, the chief executive of IDA Ireland, said the expansion "demonstrates that Ireland has both the necessary business infrastructure and talent pool to continue to attract global services companies."

The Strencom jobs come off the back of a €6m investment from reinvested profits and will bring the company's employee base in Cork and Dublin to 28.

In a statement, Strencom CEO Tim Murphy said: "We’re delighted to announce the new positions and investment in the business."

"The roles we’re recruiting for are highly skilled and we are looking for very talented people," he said.

"Our consistent annual growth has enabled us to invest in the business and look at new opportunities, both in Ireland and in the UK."

The company aims to grow its 'large enterprise customer' numbers to over 300 by 2020 as it targets annual recurring revenue of €50m.
