130 new jobs are being announced at two separate companies. US medical devices firm Teleflex is to create 100 new jobs in Westmeath, while Irish technology company Openet is creating 30 new jobs at its Dublin office.

Teleflex provides medical devices for critical care and surgery, and will create the positions over the next three years in Athlone.

The expansion is supported by the Department of Jobs through IDA Ireland.

The company employs more than 150 people at the site, who support the company's business in Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA), Asia Pacific and India.

Teleflex is one of the top 160 companies by revenue in Ireland, and the Athlone site was recently named as one of the best workplaces in Ireland by the Great Place to Work Institute.

Meanwhile tech firm Openet says its 30 Dublin jobs will include a number of graduate positions, as well as senior technical and engineering posts.

Openet's global customers include Vodafone, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and Bell.

Commenting on the announcement, Openet CEO Niall Norton said "We are delighted to be in a position to increase our employee numbers, locally and globally, to meet the needs of our customers."

"We are hiring top class software engineering graduates and senior engineers who can help us continue to innovate and create dynamic, real time software solutions for our Tier 1 global customers," he added.

Breda O'Toole is head of regional business development with IDA Ireland. She outlines the kind of positions that will come on stream.
